THOUGH I’VE VISITED bustling cities and ancient castles, and explored snowy mountains ranges and wide-open highlands, I will always be most impressed by the humble state that I call home. From ocean-like views and unpopulated sandy beaches, to cozy villages with a surprisingly refined food scene, Northern Michigan has everything that a summer destination should – and shades of blue as far as the eye can see!

   

MOVING TO GERMANY: TIPS

BACK WHEN I first wanted to move to Germany I felt extremely discouraged. I seemed to lack many of the things that I needed and wasn’t sure who to look to for answers.

Then, just over a year later, I packed up all of my necessities and flew hopefully to Frankfurt on a one-way ticket – I don’t even think that I was fully aware of the fact that I was without a job, a visa, or even my own place to live, but I wanted it badly enough to try. The initial experience was intimidating, but everything eventually fell into place. I’m in no way a government official and I don’t know much about immigration, but I’ve learned a bit along the way. It is my hope that this article will give you the answers that you need in order make the move, whether short- or long-term, if living abroad is something you hope to experience.

GOLD MINE.

THIS FIELD OF gold is about 1,000 kilometers east of where I currently live in Germany and I’ve been eyeing it from my bedroom window all month long.  As it was growing closer to summer, I knew that my window of opportunity to photograph the scene was fleeting, so I threw on a sweater and made my way to the field. Though I am pretty sure it was responsible for my sudden onset of allergies the following week, the way the evening sun shone through the yellow blooms made it the epitome of a golden hour, and it was a very special moment.
