WHEN I PICTURE southern Germany, I see bright green, rolling hills dotted with wildflowers and cattle (–right after bowls of pretzels and strings of sausage, that is). Certainly German winters are beautiful, when towns are lit up with Christmas lights and sprinkled with snow, but there’s no arguing that the country’s rolling hills look stunning in spring, when the chill finally fades and wildflowers can be seen blowing in the wind on hillsides.
